About Me

I firmly believe that ‘real’ is a superpower and that as women we need to embrace it, relish it, and harness it. I have made it my personal mission to empower women by having open conversations that help us accept ourselves – flaws and all. I started this blog in 2016 and wonderful things have happened since then, personally and professionally. I think with ‘Real Girl’ I am truly living out my life’s purpose, which is a feeling I can’t quite put into words. So much for being in the communication biz, right?

From being a copywriter at a renowned ad agency, FCB ULKA, to being a senior lifestyle writer at POPxo, I’ve dabbled extensively in the content and media world. Previously I have contributed to Indiatimes, Lifestyle Asia, Nykaa Beauty Book, WedMeGood, PriyankaGill.com, Design Pataki, Spicy Sangria, Mumbai Mag, InOnIt, etc. I also continue to freelance as an editorial writer and content writer with some great websites and brands.

A natural extension of this blog was my first podcast ‘Real Talk with Smriti Notani’ (100k + organic listens) which saw unprecedented success.

It has been featured extensively in The Midday, The New Indian Express, Sunday Midday, Femina, Feminism in India, Scoopwhoop Hindi, All About Eve, Channel46.com as a ‘must check out’ podcast for the modern Indian woman. ‘The Sindhian’ Magazine recently did a one-page feature on me.

I’m now over the moon to introduce my new podcast, ‘Keeping It Real With Smriti Notani’ – A Jio Saavn Original.

I was also recently published in a book – ‘Sindhi Tapestry: An Anthology of Reflections on the Sindhi Identity’, making me a published poet. (I go weak in the knees just saying that)

I also have my own single out which is available on all Streaming Platforms called ‘Real Girl Anthem’ which was released on Women’s Day 2021 and is a spoken word piece. It was subsequently adapted into a video powered by My Glamm & POPxo.

I love teaching (my mom’s a teacher so that should explain a lot) and I also conduct Workshops on Content Creation and Podcasting.

I do have a shall-we-call-it unique personality with a bit of a foul mouth (if you know, you know) and some astute observational skills!  But at the core of what I do lies an inherent need to see Indian women, especially future generations, lead a more evolved and fair existence.

When I’m not denouncing the patriarchy, I’m busy sampling good gin, eating cheesy fries and jamming to Coke Studio. I’m a night bird – irrevocably in love with the solitude that only the moon can offer. I’m a content person overall (no pun intended) and I think if you can’t laugh at yourself, you’re doing life wrong!

I live in Bombay (one of the greatest loves of my life) with my husband Karan (THE greatest love of my life) who I’ve known and annoyed for a decade and a half now.
